Panippookkal writing guidelines

Panippookal (ppkl) accepts submissions pertaining to Tamil cultural life. Ppkl welcomes classical, traditional and well as modern fusion literature. Send proposal including a letter describing the purpose and audience for your creation, along with your background.

Nonfiction Subjects include Minnesotan Tamil-ian life,  regional reporting, north American Tamil experience, music, art, history and anthropology, social sciences and cultural observations, spirituality, nature and environment, child guidance, women issues, men issues, cooking, crafts, education, hobbies, foods, creative nonfiction, horticulture, ware history, recreation, local sports, house and home, American history, Canadian history, Tamil medicine and health.

Fiction subjects include adventure, fantasy, historical, humor, juvenile, Tamil cultural, mystery, picture-story-telling, suspense, folk tales, science fiction, futuristic societies; Please indicate which word-processing software you use as we ask that the final manuscript (ms) be submitted on electronically via email or upload to ppkl drop box. An outline or table of contents and an estimated of the length of the completed ms in number of words or doublespaced pages would be preferred.

PPKL usually will do the art work for the submissions, but if submission accompanies specific art/graphic work sample illustrations then number of graphic items and types of illustrations, photo-graph resolutions would be expected to be submitted. Generally regular writers will submit article proposals which will allow ppkl editorial to review, decide and accept the submission.

Poems

· Traditional poems, lyric poems, satiric or philosophical poems. PPKL encourages Esappaddu style confrontational and cordial poetic writings.

 

Manuscript (ms) dimensions

– Regular columns -750-1000 words

– Stories 2,500-3,000 words

– Non fiction 1000-3000 words

– Fiction 1200-1500 words

– Travel articles – 1,000-2,000 words

– Historical articles 2500-3000 words
